Certified Voice Artist Program: Day 2 of a Dream 10 Years in the Making

Key takeaway from this session: You only learn by doing

You know how awkward it is to be "all out" in front of a group that you've only known for like... 2 weeks? Yeah, I felt so all over the place while anxiety was eating me up alive.

... at first, at least.

But at the end of the day, most if not all of us felt a lot more free and comfortable -- dare I say even more confident than when we started out with our CVAP journey.

Day 2's task was all about finding out what you can do with your voice. How high can it go? How low? How long can you sustain whatever voice you're doing? Ah, let's not get into the technicalities of it since all of them can be found in Sir Pocholo De Leon Gonzales' "Gusto ko Maging Voice Talent" book.

To cut the long story short, I am personally surprised with my output for that day!

The comments of my batchmates blew me away! Best believe I was shaking like mad after my part during the session but these kind words calmed me down and even got me all flustered. I mean, sure, I was a cosplayer back in the day but the difference of this voice artist workshop is how our voices are literally our identity. Our audience will probably not see us especially if we venture into the world of dubbing so our voices alone should suffice in giving life to our characters.

I guess the same goes for when we talk in real life, whether it's as huge as speaking in front of a crowd or simply talking to a few good friends. As Sir Pocholo Gonzales said, "when you say or do something, it should be intentional because if not, that's just fake."

Our second session made me realize all the more how important our voices and our messages are. How we deliver it is as equally important.

Now! For my personal top 10 #Pochology quotes for Day 2:

1. "When you ask the universe a question, the universe will ask it back to you. Ginagawa mo ba dapat mong gawin to get that? (Are you doing what you should to get that?)"

2. "Your voice is your most powerful tool."

3. "It's a disability to not express yourself the way you want to or have to."

4. "For sure, hindi ka magkakamali kung susundin mo ang boses mo (you'd never be wrong if you follow your own voice.)"

5. "You get what you give."

6. "When you say or do something, it should be intentional. If not, fake 'yan (that's fake)."

7. "Our voice is not just a gift; it's a choice."

8. "Anything that you do, be the number one fan of it."

9. "At the end of the workshop, my students will love their voices."

10. "You only learn by doing."

That's it for now!
